چکیده

The present study was designed to investigate the histochemical developmental changes of proventriculus at pre-hatching and post-hatching in northern bobwhite quail periods 11- 15-days addition 14- 21-days post-hatching. composed four tunics is tunica mucosa, sub-mucosa, muscularis, serosa. mucosa lined with simple columnar epithelium height increases age also thickness submucosa filled proventricular glands 21-day post-hatch gland diameters while 15-day pre-hatch less diameter sub does not fill gland. Tunica muscularis thicker than pre-hatch, 15- day a thin inner circular layer thick outer longitudinal but middle layer. give positive reaction for Alcian blue stain weak moderate periodic acid Schiff gives negative stains.

Amino acid sequence of Japanese quail (Coturnix japonica) and northern bobwhite (Colinus virginianus) myoglobin.

Myoglobin has an important physiological role in vertebrates, and as the primary sarcoplasmic pigment in meat, influences quality perception and consumer acceptability. In this study, the amino acid sequences of Japanese quail and northern bobwhite myoglobin were deduced by cDNA cloning of the coding sequence from mRNA. Japanese quail myoglobin was isolated from quail cardiac muscles, purified ...

Caecal worm, Aulonocephalus pennula, infection in the northern bobwhite quail, Colinus virginianus

Parasitic nematodes that infect quail have been understudied and long been dismissed as a problem in quail management. Within the Rolling Plains ecoregion of Texas, an area that has experienced quail population "boom and bust" cycles and ultimately a general decline, the need to determine why Northern bobwhite (Colinus virginianus) populations are diminishing has increased in priority. Previous...

Dietary toxicity of soluble and insoluble molybdenum to northern bobwhite quail (Colinus virginianus)

Limited data are available on the effects of molybdenum (Mo) on avian wildlife, which impairs evaluation of ecological exposure and risk. While Mo is an essential trace nutrient in birds, little is known of its toxicity to birds exposed to molybdenum disulfide (MoS2), the predominant form found in molybdenite ore. The chemical form and bioavailability of Mo is important in determining its toxic...

Altered embryonic development in northern bobwhite quail (Colinus virginianus) induced by pre-incubation oscillatory thermal stresses mimicking global warming predictions

Global warming is likely to alter reproductive success of ground-nesting birds that lay eggs normally left unattended for days or even weeks before actual parental incubation, especially in already warm climates. The native North American bobwhite quail (Colinus virginianus) is such a species, and pre-incubation quail eggs may experience temperatures ≥45°C. Yet, almost nothing is known about em...

Modified prenatal sensory stimulation influences postnatal behavioral and perceptual responsiveness in bobwhite quail chicks (Colinus virginianus).

Asynchronous bimodal stimulation during prenatal development elicits higher levels of behavioral and physiological arousal in precocial avian embryos than does unimodal sensory stimulation. To investigate whether the increased arousal associated with prenatal bimodal stimulation has enduring effects into postnatal development, bobwhite quail (Colinus virginianus) embryos received no supplementa...
